毕业了 我又带着英文版鬼吹灯杀回来了

Chapter 1  White Paper Woman (E1)
My grandfather HuGuohua had ancestors who were well known as big land owners. In the most brilliant years, the Hu family owned over forty houses that covered three hutongs. Some guys from the family were government officers and businessmen and some financed the constructions of Food Supply Sites and Channel Transportation in Qing Dynasty. Idioms say that treasure cannot last for three generations. It’s true that even a gold mountain cannot survive the luxurious generations.
In the years of Republic of China, the Hu family’s fortune began to fall down in my grandfather’s hands. After the family split, HuGuohua got some money which could really afford him a happy life without worrying about food or anything. However, he just ruined the happiness and devoured the money by gambling and taking opium.
When he was very young, HuGuohua was addicted to eating, alcohol, whoring, gambling and opium. He finally had no money left. It was hard for him to refuse the desire for opium, but no one could give him that because he had no money. In the past when he had a lot of money, the boss and servants of opium houses called him Mr. Hu and offered the best service. But when he had no money left, they treated him like he was a beggar and couldn’t wait to get rid of him.
Poverty drives people mad and makes them do unmoral things. HuGuohua worked out a way of getting some money from his uncle by cheating. His uncle knew that he was an opium addict and didn’t lend him money. But this time, HuGuohua told his uncle that he was going to get married and need some money.
On hearing the news, his old uncle was touched to tears. He thought that it was a good thing for his bad nephew to get married, for a good wife could lead him to a good direction. So he gave his nephew 20 Dayang (a kind of Chinese ancient currency) and told him to marry a good woman and get rid of opium. He even said that when he got time he would visit and see his nephew’s wife.
HuGuohua had plenty of big ideas. To handle with his uncle’s visit, he found a man in his village capable of making paper men and paper horse that were usually intended for dead people. This man was skilled enough to make paper things real as alive. He was asked to make a paper woman with some white paper and paint fake eyes, nose, clothes and hair for the paper woman, which afterwards looked like a real woman.
HuGuohua carried the paper woman home and put it into bed and then covered it with the quilt. He thought he could tell his uncle that his wife was not feeling well and cannot get up and she could only be taken a look at from a distance. Hu had exultation over this idea and walked into town to get high in opium humming a song.
Several days later, his uncle came to see his nephew’s wife with gifts such as cloth and deserts. Hu did what he planned and let his uncle had a quick look at his wife without letting him in.
But his uncle was unhappy. He told his nephew that he had to see his wife. If she was really ill, he could send for a doctor for her and pay the money. HuGuohua just kept his uncle out of the room with the most of his strength. His uncle doubted more the longer Hu kept him outside. So a quarrel was started. Just at this moment, the door opened and came out a young beautiful woman, who is clean and white. HuGuohua was astonished and wonder if this woman was the paper woman and how it became alive.

Chapter 1 White Paper Woman (E2)

After doing politeness, the woman apologized to Hu’s uncle for not welcoming him outside. She said that she was feeling better at the moment and invited him for dinner. After saying all these, the woman went inside and started cooking.
HuGuohua’s uncle was pleased to see that his nephew had a good wife. He thought even his sister, who already died, would also be happy to see her son married such a good woman. He gave his nephew ten Dayang again out of delight.
Hu himself was in a panic, feeling half lucky and half afraid. Time went quickly and it was dark. The paper woman made a table of good dishes. Hu’s uncle was very pleased while Hu couldn’t eat. He looked at the woman opposite to him and felt sick like eating a fly. The paper woman’s face was white without a sign of blood. The red color on her face was the rouge that was put on by the craftsman.
Hu’s uncle couldn’t see clearly, so he didn’t find anything suspicious about the woman. He got badly drunk after several drinks. HuGuohua borrowed a donkey cart and sent his uncle home.
On his way back home, HuGuohua became more and more scared as he kept thinking about the woman. So he decided to spend his night in Hualiuxiang ( a place where people go whoring in ancient time) instead of going home. All the ten Dayang his uncle gave him was spent finally.
Later HuGuohua was driven out without money to pay. He got nowhere to go except his own house. He got home only to find that the paper woman was lying quietly in his bed and covered by the quilt. It seemed that nothing had happened before.
HuGuohua was afraid that the woman paper became alive again, so he planned to burn it. He carried it to the yard, started a fire when the paper woman started to speak again. “Dammed you! I was trying to help you but now you want to burn me! ”, she said.
HuGuohua was astonished. It was dark at night. The paper woman went on saying, “I took pity on you. You are not a bad man although you are addicted to alcohol, whoring and gambling. I’d like to be married to you. How about that? ”
Hu shook his head and said no. He asked the paper woman if she was a monster or a ghost. The paper woman said, “Of course I’m a ghost staying in this paper body for now. But dare you look down upon me. I was rich before I died. The gold and silver jewelry buried with me can give you the chance to take opium for ten lifetimes. Isn’t it said that a rich ghost is as hundred times powerful as a poor man?”
